introduction
Ever since I was a boy, I had an interest in drawing. Eventually, this turned into graphic design as I got myself into the CyberARTS program during high school. Fine art classes were good, but graphic design classes were great. Eventually, this spurred on a love for design as I decided to take a leap in my senior year and try my hand at fashion.
fashion design
Clothing wasn’t really on my mind when I began to love design. They’re a part of our everyday lives yet we don’t appreciate the work that goes into fashion. Graphic design and fashion design are similar in the sense that it’s all geometry: everything is shaped and measured down to perfection. In that sense, I think fashion was the natural next step whether or not I had done so in my senior year.
why shayuu?
When I was a kid, if it wasn’t an art career I would have chosen to become a marine biologist. I love sharks, and my family speaks Mandarin-Chinese; so I put my creative works under the name “shayuu”, meaning shark. My signature is shaped like a fish and this website is aquatic themed too!
